"Desperate Housewives: I'm done
So as I was watching “Desperate Housewives” Sunday night, I finally came to a conclusion I’ve been coming to for months…
I’m so done with this show.
Let’s face it. When a show is as over-hyped as “Housewives” was, there’s bound to be a letdown. But in this case, there wasn’t just a letdown, there was a full blown crash and burn.
There are just too many storylines that have no point or just plain don’t make sense like Bree’s engagement to George, the entire Gaby baby storyline (Her screaming in the street as they took the baby was just laughable.), Bree’s alcoholism and anything to do with the Applewhites. The show had rebounded slightly at mid-season, so I kept watching; but two things about last night’s episode made up my last straw.
First, the Edie we know and love is a manipulator. She would have found much more devious ways to get back at Susan than just burning her house down. I know it was supposed to be ironic, but to me, it was a total copout.
Second, Peter (Bree’s sponsor) was a good character with a lot of potential. His sex addiction was an interesting (and original) obstacle in a possible relationship with Bree. But Sunday, that was ruined in the twisted (and totally annoying) Andrew storyline. It seemed that Bree and Andrew were going to call a truce and we would finally be done with all the nonsense. But instead, we got a stupid resolution that destroyed a good character. As a friend of mine pointed out, there’s still a possibility that nothing happened between Peter and Andrew, but in my opinion, the damage has already been done. There’s nothing I hate worse than twists just for the sake of twists; and this one was just plain mean. Watching Bree let her son go after fighting all season to keep him—even causing him to lose his trust fund—was just too much for me to take.
I’ll watch the final two weeks just to see how it ends, but unless they serve up an awesome cliffhanger (which considering last year’s is highly unlikely), I’m done with “Desperate Housewives.”
Then, maybe, I can finally make room for “Grey’s Anatomy.” That is, if ABC doesn’t move it to go head-to-head with “24” (which is highly likely).
