The Big Apple's Take on Jamie Oliver

Yesterday, a story by the Associated Press hit the Internet about the impact of Jamie Oliver’s menu on Huntington schools.

This morning, the story hit the “New York Post.” Since they always have an interesting perspective on things, I wanted to share it with you…

You can read it here.

"Dancing With the Stars": Huh?

WARNING: If you have not yet watched tonight's "Dancing With the Stars" results show, stop reading now...

So I know I only turned over for a second during Tim Urban’s intro package on “American Idol,” but did I see it correctly? Shannen Doherty was eliminated on “Dancing With the Stars”?

I haven’t seen a single second of any of the performances this year, but I still have to say, HUH?

Kate Gosselin badmouthed her partner so bad that he wanted to quit and Shannen goes home?

Wow! I guess America has never forgiven her for her bad girl ways. Or they just enjoy Kate’s bad girl ways more…

I know “Dancing” fans who have waited for a long time for Shannen to be a part of the cast (They asked her for season one.) are devastated tonight. Feel free to share your grief/outrage by posting a comment…

"24: The Final Hours"

I admit it. When the words “24: The Final Hours” flashed on the screen tonight, I almost cried. I honestly don’t know how I’m going to handle this…

One way I’m dealing with it is to put together a list of The Top 24 “24” Moments and I would love your help. Feel free to send your favorite moment to me at hdstaytuned@hotmail.com. I’d love to hear from you.

In the meantime, let me share this outstanding interview with Kiefer Sutherland from today’s “Variety.”

I especially appreciate what he has to say about 9/11:

“I felt for the first two weeks after 9/11 that I couldn't believe I had wasted my life as an actor. Those were the moments when I think, rightfully so, we truly valued the police officers, the firemen, the doctors, the nurses, the people who can actually physically contribute at that exact moment.

I was walking down the street in a daze like that, and a guy was walking down the street and said to me, 'Hey man, I can't wait to see your show." And I remember looking up and, I don't think I said anything, but I remember thinking, "How can you say something like that at a time like this?" And then I walked a couple blocks more and then I thought, "Well, how can you not?"

That's what we do, we create entertainment. Sometimes more thoughtful than not. But we provide an outlet for people to sometimes get away from something. In the case of Jack Bauer, that was a unique phenomenon at a time where I, myself, and a lot of other people felt so helpless about what was happening. Jack Bauer was this character that was doing something about that world. I certainly have heard from people that they felt a kind of gratification from that.”

The Visitors Return

Don’t forget that tomorrow marks the return of my second favorite new show, “V.”

Everything I’ve read says the show is amping up the action and speeding up the revelations. But I can’t help but worry if it’s too little too late. I hope not, because I’m going to need a good adrenaline rush once “24” is gone…

“V” airs Wednesday, March 30th at 10 p.m. on ABC…

Pick of the Week: "So let it be written..."

There is a whole list of movies that I never miss when I catch them on TV…

“The Fugitive” (which I’m actually writing as I watch this), “Miss Congeniality,” “The Replacements,” “Legally Blonde” and “The Parent Trap” (the remake) are just a few of them.

And then there’s the movie I sit down and watch once a year. All four and a half glorious hours of it…

My Pick of the Week is “The Ten Commandments.”

Yes, there are parts of it that come off cheesy today, but the truth is they just don’t make movies like that anymore. So we should all take the time to enjoy it.

“So let it be written. So let it be done.”

“The Ten Commandments” airs Saturday, April 3rd beginning at 7 p.m. on ABC…

The "Revolution" Ratings for Episode 2 Are In And...

The numbers are in for episode two of “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution,” and they are much better.

“The Hollywood Reporter” reports that Friday’s new episode had 7.5 million viewers and a 2.6 rating in the 18-48 demographic. That’s an 18 percent jump from Sunday.

It’s pretty impressive because Friday night viewing is much lower than Sundays. And the show had pretty stiff competition from the NCAA tournament.

"Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution" Episode 2 Review: Jamie and the Show Make Progress

Before I dive into the second episode of “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution,” let me go back to the first one for a second…

Some of the comments on my review of the first episode kind of surprised me. Most of them hailed Jamie as Huntington’s savior and blasted the cooks and Rod Willis for giving him such a hard time. Some of them even attacked me for hailing Huntington and calling Central City Elementary cook Alice Gue my hero.

I love your comments, so please keep them coming, but let me make a few more of my own…

First of all, let me say that I fully support what Jamie is trying to do. We all need to eat healthier, so I appreciate him wanting to start with kids.

Second of all, let me remind you that this is a TV show. So there is some dramatic license here as Rod is definitely playing up the animosity.

Third, let me say that Alice is still my hero. Yes, she gave Jamie attitude, but not because she doesn’t care about the kids eating healthy. She gave Jamie attitude because he came in and stuck his nose in the air to everything she and her colleagues were doing. And she wasn’t afraid to stand up to him. Watching for a second time her and her fellow cooks confronting Jamie about his comments to a London radio station just confirmed my original assessment.

Now to episode two…

Looking at it as just a television show, I thought this episode was a huge improvement over the first one. It was paced beautifully and there was a good mix of humor and drama.

The heart of the episode was the story of the Edwards family. Sensing that they had not been using his recipes, Jamie took the family to Cabell Huntington Hospital where the doctor told 6th grader Justin that he was showing the early signs of diabetes. The family anxiously waiting for Justin’s diabetes test results was milked for dramatic effect, but it certainly drove the point home for all of us. You couldn’t help but cheer for dad Tim when he vowed the whole family would change to help Justin.

I was also completely sucked into the drama of the discussion as to whether or not the elementary school kids should have knives. I’m honestly not sure where I come down on that one, but watching the kids scarily struggle to use them I can see the school’s argument.

Jamie’s struggles were illustrated humorously—and rather disgustingly—when he tried to gross the kids out of eating chicken nuggets. But he was completely defeated when the kids still wanted to eat them. So he wisely did a similar trick with the parents and they were justifiably horrified. Jamie made other progress with the school administrators, the cooks, the kids themselves, and even Rod—but just a little bit.

However, Jamie didn’t make any progress at all with Alice, who continued to hold her ground with him. I’m a little concerned, though, about her comment that she’s there for the money but she does care about the kids. I appreciate her candor, but I’m afraid that’s going to just give her detractors more ammunition against her.

Next week, Jamie goes to Huntington High School and from the previews it appears that things are about to get really interesting…

So what did you think about the episode? You can post your comments below. I can’t wait to read them…

Offical From FOX: "24" Was NOT Cancelled

So I’m supposed to be writing next week’s “American Idol” column and preparing for the second episode of “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.” But instead I’m totally obsessed with reading all the reaction to the end of “24.”

And in reading that I found myself a little angry that “The Hollywood Reporter” wrote in its headline that FOX had cancelled “24.” I wished that I had some venue where I could attack this case of bad reporting.

And then I remembered that I do…

But before I could launch into my mini-rant, FOX came to my rescue with the official press release explaining the entire decision…

Here it is in its entirety:

“In a joint decision made by 24’s star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, executive producer and showrunner Howard Gordon, Twentieth Century Fox Television, Imagine Entertainment and Fox Broadcasting Company, it was determined that the acclaimed series will end its remarkable eight-season run. Jack Bauer’s last day on FOX will conclude when the final two hours of “Day Eight” air Monday, May 24 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). As the countdown to the series’ climactic conclusion races on, the final 11 hours will air uninterrupted Mondays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Multiple award-winning series star Kiefer Sutherland reflected on the show’s run: “This has been the role of a lifetime, and I will never be able to fully express my appreciation to everyone who made it possible. While the end of the series is bittersweet, we always wanted 24 to finish on a high note, so the decision to make the eighth season our last was one we all agreed upon. This feels like the culmination of all our efforts from the writers to the actors to our fantastic crew and everyone at Fox. Looking ahead to the future, Howard Gordon and I are excited about the opportunity to create the feature film version of 24. But when all is said and done, it is the loyal worldwide fan base that made it possible for me to have the experience of playing the role of Jack Bauer, and for that I am eternally grateful.”

Executive producer and showrunner Howard Gordon said, “Kiefer and I have loved every minute of making 24, but we all believe that now is the right time to call it a day. I echo his sentiments of gratitude toward the show’s amazing creative team, as well as the studio and network who have always believed in us and shown us unbelievable support.”

“24 is so much more than just a TV show – it has redefined the drama genre and created one of the most admired action icons in television history,” said Peter Rice, Chairman, Entertainment, Fox Networks Group. Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company added, “We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series and will be forever thankful to Kiefer, the producers, the cast and crew for everything they’ve put into 24 over the years. It’s truly been an amazing and unforgettable eight days.”

“We are so grateful to Kiefer and Howard who have really poured their hearts and souls into making this show over the past eight seasons,” commented Gary Newman and Dana Walden, Chairmen, Twentieth Century Fox Television. “To everyone who contributed to this iconic series over its amazing run, we want to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your incredible work.”

Added Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, “I’m so proud to have been a part of 24, which has become such a cultural phenomenon. And to Kiefer and Howard and everyone who has worked on the show, many thanks.”

Now in its eighth season with Kiefer Sutherland starring as the heroic Jack Bauer, the inventive and suspenseful 24 has been nominated for a total of 68 Emmy Awards, winning for Outstanding Drama Series in 2006. Over the course of seven seasons, Sutherland garnered seven Emmy nominations and one win for Outstanding Lead Actor – Drama Series. While the series gained global recognition, Sutherland’s portrayal of the legendary character penetrated the American psyche like no other dramatic television character to become part of the English lexicon.

Premiering November 6, 2001, 24 employed a pioneering split-screen, fast-paced format with complex interweaving storylines as viewers followed anti-terrorism agent Jack Bauer through 24 pulse-pounding episodes, each covering one hour and presented in real time. Subsequent seasons combined the show’s unique and trend-setting format while delivering compelling new elements and attracting talented actors and guest stars, including the Emmy Award-winning Cherry Jones (President Allison Taylor). The series also currently stars Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe O’Brian), Anil Kapoor (Omar Hassan), Annie Wersching (Renee Walker), Katee Sackhoff (Dana Walsh), Mykelti Williamson (Brian Hastings), Freddie Prinze Jr. (Cole Ortiz), Chris Diamantopoulos (Rob Weiss) and John Boyd (Arlo Glass).

The first six seasons were set in Los Angeles, and following the strike-induced delay of Season Seven, “24: Redemption,” a two-hour film bridging Seasons Six and Seven, was set in Africa. Washington, D.C. was the setting for Season Seven, and the final season of 24 finds Jack Bauer thwarting a terrorist attack in New York.

At the conclusion of Season Eight, 24 will have a produced a total of 194 episodes (including “24: Redemption”), making it one of the longest-running action television shows in history.

Tune in Monday, March 29 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) for the next all-new installment of 24 and Monday, April 5 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) for a special two-hour episode.

Created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, 24 is a production of 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television in association with Teakwood Lane Productions. Howard Gordon, Evan Katz, David Fury, Manny Coto, Brannon Braga, Brad Turner, Alex Gansa, Kiefer Sutherland and Brian Grazer are executive producers, while Chip Johannessen and Patrick Harbinson serve as co-executive producers. Brad Turner will direct the series finale.”

It's Official. Time Has Run Out for "24"

It’s official. This will be the final day for “24”…at least on TV…

“Variety” just reported the news after longtime director and former producer Jon Cassar tweeted the news on his Twitter page. FOX had planned to make an official announcement Monday.

The report says that FOX held off the announcement to allow the producers, writers and star/Executive Producer Kiefer Sutherland time to decide if they wanted to do another season. They ultimately decided this season should be the last.

The good news is this puts an end to those crazy NBC rumors.

I’ll have MUCH more to say as the end gets closer. In the meantime, you can read the details from “Variety.”

Jamie Oliver Takes on Letterman

Tuesday night, Jamie Oliver appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman” to promote “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.”

Minus Jamie’s misunderstanding of what Tri-State means and Dave’s slight swipe at the Tri-State, this is pretty daggone funny…

Jamie Oliver on "Oprah" Reminder...

Just a reminder that you can see Jamie Oliver talking about “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” today on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Jamie will talk about the show and also do some cooking with Oprah. Ryan Seacrest will also be part of the episode to talk about “Revolution,” and, of course, “American Idol.”

And, no doubt, you’ll see some local faces as well…

“Oprah” airs in the Huntington area at 4 p.m. on WSAZ…

You can see a preview here.

The "Revolution" Ratings Are In And...

The ratings are in and they are…not good.

The headline in “The Hollywood Reporter” actually read “Jamie Oliver Fizzles.”

Last night’s special preview of “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” only garnered 6.2 million viewers, and a 2.2 rating in the all important 18-49 demo according to the “Reporter.”

In comparison, its lead-in “Desperate Housewives,” had 10.8 million viewers and a 3.5 in the demo.

“Revolution” did have stiff competition last night as an NCAA overrun had it going head-to-head with CBS’ reality hit, “Undercover Boss,” which had 13.6 million viewers (4.0 in the demo). Because the two shows appeal to the same audience, that no doubt had a big impact. However, ABC can’t be too happy that “Revolution” was the lowest-rated show of the entire night.

It will be interesting to see what it does on Friday…

Pick of the Week: Time to Go "Dancing"

Monday nights are pretty crazy for me the way it is as I watch/tape “24” and tape the CBS comedies. But they’re about to get even crazier with the season premiere of a reality show I don’t usually watch, but now have no choice…

My Pick of the Week is the season premiere of “Dancing With the Stars.”

The reason I have no choice is because I have to see Chad Ochocinco, one of my very favorite NFL players. I really wish that Chad wasn’t doing the show because I want him to concentrate on football and helping the Bengals get back to the playoffs. But I’ve got a feeling he could really go far with this thing…

Here’s a look at this season’s dancers…

Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani

Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitehood (His first season)

Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya

Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke

Buzz Aldrin and Ashly Costa

Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel

Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower

Aiden Turner and Edyta Sliwinska

Shannon Doherty and Mark Ballas

So who do I think has the best chance to walk away with the mirror-balled trophy? I’ve got to go with Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough. As the leader of the Pussycat Dolls, Nicole has some moves and Derek is a fearless and talented choreographer. But I would not count out Chad and Cheryl. We know how talented Cheryl is and how good she is at getting the best out of her partners. Plus she told “TV Guide” that Chad is very serious about the competition. And I think that the audience will like him.

All 11 pairs will dance tomorrow night and next Monday night. The first elimination episode will air Tuesday, March 30th at 8 p.m.

“Dancing With the Stars” premieres Monday, March 22nd with a two-hour episode at 8 p.m. on ABC…

The Softer Side of Swiper

Don’t forget that tonight is the night that Swiper leaves behind his swiping ways on a special primetime edition of “Dora the Explorer.”

Since Swiper is such a popular character—He was always my fiance’s niece’s favorite—kids will enjoy seeing him be nice for a change as he helps Dora and Boots return a baby fox to its mother. You’ll even hear him say thank you.

Syfy Takes on the Mothman

Syfy announced yesterday that it will be taking on the Mothman…

“Mothman,” an original Syfy movie will debut next month. In the movie, according to the press release, “the legendary West Virginia monster returns to exact revenge on five childhood friends who covered up an accidental killing.” It stars Jewel Staite (“Firefly,” “Stargate Atlantis”).

“Mothman” premieres Saturday, April 24th at 9 p.m.

I hope to have much more as we get closer…

Jamie Oliver to Appear On "Nightline"

Jamie Oliver will appear tonight (Friday, March 19th) on ABC’s “Nightline”…

According to the network, correspondent Vicki Mabrey will talk exclusively to Oliver about “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.”

“Nightline” airs at 11:35 p.m. on ABC…

UPDATE: The two clips from the interview that were provided by ABC do not mention Huntington at all, but instead focus on Oliver's work to help kids. And he gets pretty passionate about it. In one of the clips, he actually uses a curse word that no doubt ABC will censor when the piece airs tonight...

You can get a preview of the story on Nightline's website here.

"Hannah Montana: Miley Says Goodbye?" Review: Making "Hannah" Fans Extremely Happy

Last Sunday’s episode of “Hannah Montana” ended with a doozy of a cliffhanger as Miley announced she wanted to move back to Tennessee.

The cliffhanger will get resolved this Sunday, but if you couldn’t wait, Disney released the episode this week on the DVD, “Miley Says Goodbye?”

But the two-part season finale is not the only thing on the DVD. You’ll also find four other episodes including “Promma Mia,” guest starring David Archuleta, and the hour-long “He Could Be the One” guest starring Cody Linley.

However, the finale is the main attraction as Miley (Miley Cyrus) starts to doubt her decision when she sees the effect it will have on her friends. But in all honesty, the highlight of the finale is—as usual—Jason Earles as Jackson moves into his own apartment. He and Mitchel Musso (Oliver) make a pretty good team. Plus, we get some great flashbacks that show us just how young Cyrus and Emily Osment (Lilly) were in the beginning. In the end, Miley does say goodbye to something. I’m just not going to spoil what that is.

The Bonus Features include “Hannah’s Highlights,” consisting of pop-up facts on the episode, “You Never Give Me My Money;” “Sister Secrets,” which features Brandi Cyrus interviewing cast members; and an alternate ending to “He Could Be the One” (They picked the right one.).

Although the attraction of the DVD is being able to see the finale before it airs, this is actually one of the more comprehensive "Hannah" releases ever and will make all of her fans extremely happy.

More Opportunities to Watch My Bravo Faves

Now I’ll have one more night to watch my beloved Bravo…

Bravo announced today that they are adding a fifth night of programming by adding shows to Fridays.

Bravo also announced the pickup of four series: “The Fashion Show 2,” “The Real Housewives of Atlanta 3,” “Million Dollar Listing 4,” and “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover 3.”

Even better news than the return of “Listing” and “Takeover”—two of my faves—is that the entire season two cast of “Atlanta” will return. It’s also interesting to note that the announcement about “Fashion” did not mention Kelly Rowland at all. She took a lot of heat from critics—including me—about her participation.

Bravo also announced four new shows: “Miami Social Club,” not to be confused with last year’s “Miami Social;” “Million Dollar Decorators,” which follows LA’s hottest interior decorators; “Pregnant In Heels,” which follows Rosie Pope, the baby coach for Manhattan’s elite; and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

According to the press release, Bravo experienced its best year ever in 2009 across all demographic and financial metrics.

Lindsay Lohan Gets Ridiculous

This isn’t a TV story per se, but it’s just so stupid I had to say something…

If you haven’t heard, Lindsay Lohan is suing eTrade over its commercial, “Girlfriend,” which first aired during the Super Bowl.

In the ad, which I thought was one of the game’s best, the talking baby deflects questions from his girlfriend as to why he didn’t call. The girlfriend asks if that “milkaholic Lindsay” was over.

Now Lohan is suing for $100 million for damages and compensation because she believes the Lindsay character was a parody of her.

WHAT?!

Did anyone think of Lindsay Lohan when they saw the ad? And isn’t it sad that Lindsay automatically thinks of herself when see sees a boyfriend stealing addict?

I hope this suit gets thrown out quickly because it’s absolutely ridiculous…

You can judge for yourself here…

"Mad Men" Gets the Mattel Treatment

“Mad Men” is about to attain iconic status…

Mattel will release “Mad Men” dolls in July. The four dolls are of Don Draper, Betty Draper, Joan Holloway and Roger Sterling. They were designed by my favorite Barbie designer, Robert Best.

The doll will retail for $74.95 and will be available at specialty stores and on amctv.com and BarbieCollector.com. Only 7000-10,000 copies of each doll will be made.

The dolls will come with accessories, but cigarettes and cocktails are not included…

Swiper Swipes No More?

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, “Dora the Explorer” is doing something special.

Swiper is giving up his swiping ways…

In the 10th anniversary special, “Swiper the Explorer,” Swiper decides to help Dora and Boots return a baby fox to its mother. Dora’s cousin, Diego, will also be on hand to help.

To mark the occasion, Nickelodeon’s new Dora website will feature a “Swiper the Explorer” theme month to teach preschoolers about helping, sharing and caring for babies.

“Explorer” is the first of four primetime specials celebrating Dora’s anniversary.

“Swiper the Explorer” airs Sunday, March 21st at 8 p.m. on Nickelodeon…

"24": What in the World Is Wrong With Me?

Last night, when I wrote about the end of “24” I said I was happy.

Well now reality is setting in…

Meanwhile, my second favorite Canadian RT has been sharing people’s thoughts about this season with me throughout the day and after reading several positive things I had to ask her, “What in the world is wrong with me?”

Her answer was that I wasn’t paying attention because I was playing on the computer. And since she’s got a point, I’m going to stop that starting this Monday…

In the meantime, here’s an excellent column from Chuck Ross of “TV Week,” which calls “24” TV’s best thriller ever…

Breaking News: ABC Gives “Food Revolution” Primo Premiere Slot

ABC has just announced that “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” will have a special preview Sunday, March 21st at 10:01 p.m.

And yes, that’s right after an all-new “Desperate Housewives,” so that’s pretty primo real estate…

The premiere will repeat Friday, March 26th at 8 p.m., followed by the second all-new episode at 9 p.m.

Here’s a description of that second episode, courtesy of ABC:

“Jamie Oliver takes one step forward and two steps back as his efforts to transform the school lunch program of Huntington, West Virginia's Central City Elementary School are met with harsh criticism and resistance from the school cook, Alice Gue, plus city administrators, DJ Rod and even the school's first graders. But despite the opposition, he does successfully raise the ire of school parents with a shocking, no-nonsense display of the fat that's being fed to their children, and he's encouraged by the initiative of a few caring teachers. The Edwards family get a wake-up call when youngest son, Justin, gets a frank warning from a doctor about the long term health effects of his poor eating habits, but then Justin is encouraged by a one-on-one cooking lesson in Jamie's kitchen. After a week of ups and downs at Central City Elementary, the fate of Jamie's mission to stay on at the school lies in the hands of a few district administrators.”

I’m starting to think that my doubts about ABC’s faith in this show were completely unfounded. I think they’re thinking they’ve got something here after all…

The End Is Near for "24"

“Variety” just reported the news that I have been expecting. The end is near for “24”…

The report says that FOX will announce the cancellation of “24” in the next day or two. And it may surprise you to hear, I’m actually happy.

Yes, it’s time for my beloved “24” to say goodbye…

No doubt you’ve noticed how quiet I have been about the show thus far this season. The truth is I just haven’t known what to say. I have always watched “24” with the lights out and no distractions—not even food. But this season I’ve had one eye on the TV and one eye on the computer, barely paying attention. I’m that bored.

Part of the problem has been the absence of Jack (although that’s been remedied somewhat in the last two hours). But the biggest problem is the new CTU. Mykelti Williamson is TERRIBLE as Brian Hastings, the new head of CTU. His slow speech sounds ridiculous in contrast to Kiefer Sutherland’s rapid—and appropriate speech. Hastings sounds like he’s the captain of a cruise ship rather than the leader of a government agency in the middle of a nuclear crisis.

And then there’s Dana Walsh. I love Katee Sackhoff, but this character is ridiculous. And the plot is even worse (although the appearance of Stephen Root may save it a little). Plus, what is up with Freddie Prinze Jr. as her fiancé, Cole? I mean, what is that accent of his supposed to be?

And we’re eleven episodes in and we have yet to see a classic “24” twist. We’ve only got one decent ending…

There have been some bright spots this season but they are just too far and few between. I think “24” has honestly just ran out of ideas. And when that happens to a show, it’s best to admit it and fade out gracefully rather than hang on and become a shell of its former self.

Plus, the show coming to an end means there’s a good chance a movie could actually happen…

The only bummer is that “24’ would end at a time when the end of “Lost” is getting all of the attention. And seeing as how there would be no “Lost” without “24,” it deserves some of that love too. But sadly, with a less than stellar season, it may not get it.

However, it will absolutely get it from me…

“24” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on FOX…

"Hannah Montana": The End is Near

Next season will be the last for “Hannah Montana.” But the groundwork is already being laid for her goodbye…

Tonight, Disney Channel will air part one of the “Hannah” season finale entitled “Miley Says Goodbye?” In the episodes, Miley (Miley Cyrus) must decide if she wants to stay in California or move back to Tennessee. Plus, Lily (Emily Osment) must decide what to do when her mom gets transferred to Atlanta and Oliver (Mitchel Musso) has to decide whether to pursue his music career.

That’s a lot of decisions…

Part one of the “Hannah Montana” season finale will air tonight (Sunday, March 7th) at 7:30 p.m. on Disney Channel. Part two will air Sunday, March 14th at 7:30 p.m.

But if you can’t wait until next week for the conclusion, the episodes will hit DVD this Tuesday, March 9th…

Pick of the Week: A Calculated Ending

When I used to spend weekends with my parents, there was always one show we would watch together.

It wasn’t a favorite of mine, by any means, but my parents didn’t have cable so I really didn’t have much choice. It was a procedural, like most every other show they watched, but this one involved math. And I won’t lie. There were times it made my head hurt.

But it was fun to sit there with them as we tried to follow the logic of the stories. And let’s face it. In most cases, the stories didn’t make any sense at all and we usually just got a good laugh.

However, now that show is most likely coming to an end. And I’ll admit it makes me sad. So I honestly have no choice but to make it my Pick…

My Pick of the Week is the season finale of “Numb3rs.”

CBS is officially calling this episode a season finale, but all indications are that this will actually be the series finale. And it is written that way, as Charlie and Amita (David Krumholtz and Navi Rawat) tie the knot with Larry (the fabulous Peter MacNicol) officiating. But before they move on to their new life, they help the FBI one more time when Don’s (Rob Morrow) gun turns up missing.

As I said, this show has never been a favorite, but it deserves a good ending and hopefully it will get it. I just hope the wedding vows don’t involve a math equation…

Is "The forgotten" Being Forgotten By ABC?

It looks like “The forgotten” will soon be forgotten by ABC. It’s just a matter of when…

“The Hollywood Reporter” is reporting that the show will air its season finale Tuesday, March 16th at 10 p.m. But the ABC media site is still showing that the season finale will air the following Tuesday, March 23rd.

Either way, it’s wrapping up more than a few episodes earlier than it should be…

Moral of the story is you need to catch the show now while you can. It won’t be around much longer…

Tom Brokaw Looks at the Baby Boomers

When my rock speaks, I listen. I don’t care what the topic is…

This week, Tom Brokaw’s topic is baby boomers, the generation following “the greatest generation” that Tom has chronicled so eloquently over the years. And he’ll discuss that topic in the two-hour documentary, “Tom Brokaw Reports: Boomer$”

He’ll look at the life, the legacy and the future of those people born between 1946 and 1964 as he talks to President Bill Clinton, Tom Hanks and more.

“Tom Brokaw Reports: Boomer$” airs Thursday, March 4th at 8 p.m. on CNBC…

"CSI: Miami": Zombie Brings Out the Best

When I heard that Rob Zombie (“Halloween,” “The Devil’s Rejects”) was directing last night’s episode of “CSI: Miami,” I expected blood and guts and downright crazy stuff. Zombie just doesn’t seem like someone who would mesh well with the cheesy goodness that is “Miami.”

But after those unbelievable first five minutes, I was a believer as Zombie interspersed a rape and murder with an old black and white horror movie playing in the background. It was a total fresh take on the usual TV murder. And when the motionless girl lying in blood suddenly opened her eyes, I jumped right off my couch.
And Zombie managed to do something I haven’t seen on the show all season. He nailed Horatio’s throwaway line scene right before the theme music fires (He didn’t put on his sunglasses, but it was still good.)
It was the best five minutes in “Miami” history. Hands down.

I was pleasantly surprised that Zombie nailed all of the "Miami" trademarks. I honestly think it was David Caruso’s best episode in a long time—maybe ever. Of course, it helped that he was surrounded by the best guest cast the show has ever seen, many of whom are Zombie regulars. Michael Madsen was actually funny as the murder suspect. William Forsythe was great as the skeptical police chief and Paul Blackthorne was fantastically sleazy even without his native British accent. And how can you possibly go wrong with Malcolm McDowell as a sleazy lawyer?

Since Zombie decided to actually show LA as opposed to making LA look like Miami, he needed a decent story to back him up and he actually got one. The resolution may have been a little too quick, but it still worked. Plus it was nice to see that Horatio-Delko chemistry in full effect. And Zombie made the most of his LA surroundings. His use of the Hollywood Bowl for a confrontation was especially good. Even Jonathan Togo got some much needed camera time as Ryan Wolfe.

Who knew that it would take a horror movie director to get the best out of this show?

You can watch the entire episode here.

Welcome Back Jay!

Since I have declared myself the quarterback of Team Leno, I felt it was my sworn duty to stay up last night and watch Jay’s return to late night.

And in all honesty, it felt like he never left…

Jay wisely kicked off the show with a taped spoof of “The Wizard of Oz” as he declared to Kevin, Ross and John that it was all a bad dream. And you can never go wrong with Betty White…

Then it was business as usual with the monologue as Jay took some shots at NBC, and even one at Letterman (It was a nice one, though.). Instead of his Monday night staple, Headlines, Jay went on a search for the perfect desk in a hilarious taped piece that invaded people’s living rooms. When the one family started taking pictures of themselves with Jay’s guest Randy Jackson in the background I almost started crying I was laughing so hard.

Jamie Foxx showed a little too much enthusiasm for Jay’s return, but he was still a great guest. And you couldn’t help but laugh when Foxx took over Jay’s interview with Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsey Vonn.

I just wish I had an explanation for that hideous theme song. And I have never liked that announcer (The same one he used for “The Jay Leno Show.”). And “The Jay Leno Show” set didn’t get enough tweaks to satisfy me. But I guess since NBC spent all that money on it, they feel like they have to use it. But those are things I’m willing to put up with as long as Jay is back where he belongs.

Not surprisingly, Jay won the ratings last night handily over Letterman, but he did not top the ratings of Conan O’Brien’s debut on “The Tonight Show.” I would argue that Conan’s high ratings were due to the curiosity of seeing what we were going to get. With Jay, you know what you’re going to get. And what you get is something I’ve been missing for nearly a year…

Welcome back, Jay! I now happily return to my regularly scheduled bedtime…

"Dancing" Cast Announced

ABC announced the cast of “Dancing With the Stars” tonight and here it is…

Pamela Anderson
Aiden Turner
Erin Andrews
Shannen Doherty
Buzz Aldrin
Niecy Nash
Nicole Scherzinger
Evan Lysacek
Kate Gosselin
Jake Pavelka

And the one I was really hoping wasn’t true…Chad Ochocinco.

I’ll have more to say about the cast once ABC releases the official bio information and photos, but right now I’m trying to get over this whole Chad thing. And I can’t help but wonder how Erin Andrews plans to be taken seriously as a sports reporter after everyone sees her in skimpy costumes…

Will Chad be "Dancing"?

Tonight, “Dancing With the Stars” will announce its cast during the season finale of “The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love.”

There have been plenty of rumored contestants, including Kate Gosselin and Pamela Anderson. But there’s one rumor I’m hoping stays just that.

TMZ.com is reporting that Chad Ochocinco will be a contestant this season. Chad posted on his Facebook page that he is in LA. But he also posted, “Great people who follow me, don't believe rumors unless OCNN reports, OCNN NEWS- where the news is given n child please fashion.”

For those of you who don’t speak Chad, OCNN stands for Ochocinco News Network…

You guys know I’m a big Bengals fan. And despite his antics, I adore Chad. But “Dancing”? Chad has enough distractions in his life. He doesn’t need this one too.

It’s called football, Chad. Focus on it…
