Will Seacrest Ruin the Emmys?
Ever since Ryan Seacrest was named the host of the Emmys, writers have been saying that he’ll ruin the Emmys.
So the blogosphere lit up this week with news that Ryan Seacrest was not the only person in the running…
Tom O’Neill from GoldDerby.com reports that Hugh Laurie was the choice of several FOX execs and that a standoff between pro-Laurie execs and pro-Seacrest execs is actually what postponed the announcement. According to O’Neill, in the end, the powers-that-be decided Seacrest would bring in a larger audience and Laurie, who is only known in the states for “House” and not for his improv comedy, would be too jarring for fans who would have a hard time separating fiction from reality.
Yes, Laurie would probably have been funny, but I still think Seacrest was the logical choice (Apparently I’m alone in that thinking.).
Personally, though, I think the Emmys will ruin themselves just fine without Seacrest’s help…
Last week, FOX announced that Tony Bennett and Christina Aguilera will perform at the ceremony. And the reason for that would be? I mean, can’t they just hand out the awards?
One performance you won’t see at the awards is Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake doing “---- In a Box,” their Emmy-nominated song from “Saturday Night Live.” Sources say FOX asked the duo to make the words more family-friendly and they refused. I think it was a strange request on FOX’s part since the category the song is nominated for isn’t part of the main ceremony and will actually be decided a week earlier (What if it lost?).
The 59th Primetime Emmys will air Sunday, September 16th at 8 p.m. and yes, I will be blogging live again this year. So mark your calendars and come join me...
