Breaking News: Is "Friends" About to Hit the Big Screen?
Those of you who are longtime readers of this blog know that “Friends” is my favorite show of all-time.
So you’d think I’d be excited by the news that a big screen version is in the works, right? But honestly, I’m not sure what to think…
MailOnline, the website of the UK’s “Daily Mail” is reporting that a “Friends” film has been given the go-ahead. “Insiders” tell the site that the entire cast will reprise their roles “within the next 18 months.”
Why now? Four words…“Sex and the City”…
“Sex” is headed for a global box office take of $300 million. That’s hard to ignore—especially for Warner Bros., which the report says is looking at its other TV properties to find movie possibilities.
A “Friends” reunion has been talked about since the show went off the air in 2004, but MailOnline says that Jennifer Aniston was reluctant to do it. But according to their source, Sarah Jessica Parker’s “Sex” success has made her change her mind.
The report even says that Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox have already had discussions about what they would like to see in the movie. MailOnline’s source even suggests that the duo’s production companies could get involved to insure a good script.
So what do you think? Is this a really bad idea or are you looking forward to the possibility?
