Kathy and Justin Take Home Emmys
Saturday night, the Creative Emmys were handed out and Justin Timberlake and Kathy Griffin both emerged as winners…
However, if you’re hoping to hear Kathy’s acceptance speech for Outstanding Reality Program (Non-Competition), you can stop now because it will not be shown during the E! telecast of the event since the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences called it “offensive” and the Catholic League said it was a “vulgar in-your-face brand of hate speech.”
So what did she say? In mocking people who thank Jesus in acceptance speeches, she said, “I want you to know that no one had less to do with this than Jesus…Suck it Jesus. This award is my god now.” By the way, if she lost, she was going to go on stage anyway.
You know that I’m a fan of “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List,” so I was thrilled to hear that she won, but couldn’t she have just said thank you, or paid tribute to her dad? One of the reasons I loved the show this year was because Kathy finally showed a human side. So much for that I guess…
Andy Samberg accepted the award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics for “D--- In A Box” from “Saturday Night Live,” for which Justin Timberlake was one of the writers (So yes, he does get an Emmy too.). This one was a rough category for the presenter since they had to announce this one and “Everything Comes Down to Poo” from “Scrubs.” So who was the poor person? None other than Miley Cyrus. She sidestepped the issue by referring to the winner as “Team from SNL.”
By the way, the win only added to the rumors that Justin and Andy will perform the song at the Primetime Emmys, but Justin has a concert at the Staples Center that night. My guess is that if they do perform it, it will be via satellite from the concert. Justin and Andy did perform the song live on Justin’s tour stop in New York…
Other major winners were:
Guest Actress, Comedy: Elaine Stritch, “30 Rock”
Guest Actress, Drama: Leslie Caron, “Law & Order: SVU”
Outstanding Animated Program: “South Park”
Guest Actor, Drama: John Goodman, “Studio 60”
Children’s Program: “Nick News with Linda Ellerbee”
Guest Actor, Comedy: Stanley Tucci, “Monk”
The Creative Awards Emmy Ceremony will air on E! Saturday, September 15th at 8 p.m.
Remember that I’ll be here blogging the Primetime Emmys as they happen Sunday night beginning at 7:55…
