ABC: Not A Lot of New
I thought I would start this look at ABC’s premiere schedule by looking at the new shows.
But it won’t take long since there are only two of them (although we will get several more during mid-season).
However, in all honesty, several of ABC’s returning shows will seem like new shows since we haven’t seen them in so long.
And yes, you can thank the infamous Writers’ Strike for all of it…
The two new shows are “Opportunity Knocks” and “Life On Mars.”
“Opportunity,” which premieres Tuesday, September 23rd at 8 p.m., is a traveling game show created by Ashton Kutcher that goes to families’ homes to play a trivia game about how well they know each other…
“Life On Mars” will premiere Thursday, October 9th at 10 p.m. It’s based on a BBC series and it’s about a detective (Jason O’Mara) who is hit by a car and wakes up in 1973. The show was originally helmed by David E. Kelley, but he jumped ship, the pilot was recast and the show was moved from LA to NYC. It’s hard not to sense trouble…

Friday, September 19th, it’s the season premiere of the venerable “20/20” at 10 p.m…
Monday, September 22nd, ABC kicks off premiere week with the season premiere of “Dancing With the Stars” at 8 p.m. Then, “Boston Legal” begins its final season at 10 p.m. And because “BL” is so unloved by its own network, ABC only gave it 13 episodes…
Tuesday, September 23rd, “Dancing With the Stars” adds a second two-hour performance show for one night only at 9 p.m…
Wednesday, September 24th, it’s a night of specials. “Dancing With the Stars Results Special” airs at 8 p.m., followed by “David Blaine: Dive of Death,” where apparently Blaine will hang upside down for three days and then dive off. Alrighty then…
Thursday, September 25th is a big night with the season premieres of “Ugly Betty” at 8 p.m. and the two-hour “Grey’s Anatomy” premiere at 9 p.m…
Sunday, September 28th, it’s the season premieres of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (7 p.m.), “Desperate Housewives” (9 p.m.) and “Brothers and Sisters” (10 p.m.)…
Tuesday, September 30th, the “Dancing With the Stars Results Show” moves to its regular day and time period at 9 p.m…
Wednesday, October 1st, ABC welcomes back three shows that had their freshmen seasons cut short: “Pushing Daisies” (8 p.m.), “Private Practice” (9 p.m.) and “Dirty Sexy Money” (10 p.m.)…
Friday, October 3rd, it’s the return of reality shows “Wife Swap” (8 p.m.) and “Supernanny” (9 p.m.)…
Sunday, October 5th, the neverending “America’s Funniest Home Videos” returns at 7 p.m., as “Extreme Makeover: HE” moves to its regular timeslot at 8 p.m…
Monday October 5th, “Samantha Who?” returns at 9:30 p.m. as “Dancing” shortens to 90 minutes…
Tuesday, October 14th, ABC rounds out its fall premieres with the return of “Eli Stone” at 10 pm…
