24 Days of "24": Will Jack Bauer Make It to the Big Screen?
One of the things that makes “24” going off the air easier to take is the thought that it may hit the big screen.
Executive Producer and Showrunner Howard Gordon addressed the movie during his media conference call yesterday. And it seems like things may be a little more in flux than we thought…
“There are two sets of requirements which is honoring the series and the creativity and integrity of the character and also potentially bringing in a whole new group of people into the franchise who can then go back and watch and see that it’s been consistent. We’re serving two masters. Two audiences here. That’s definitely an ongoing question.
Billy Ray has written a screenplay that Kiefer has read. And we’re working. We’re all working together on a second draft. It’s not been shared with Fox or anybody so there’s no official status. It’s very much a work in progress.
Honestly the movie division is on the other side of the lot. I can’t measure their intentions or timing. I think it’s all very much speculation at this point.
I think our preference would be to do it sooner rather than later. To get Jack back in front of people within a year or two. But that would be just me speaking.”
I’m a little concerned that 20th Century Fox might be hesitating on this movie a little. Perhaps because of the drop in ratings this year. I hope I’m wrong and they get the movie made. Jack Bauer deserves to kick but on a larger screen.
Tomorrow, 24 Days of “24” continues with a trip down memory lane…
