"Prison Break" Series Finale Preview: Fasten Your Seat Belts
Has there ever been a wilder show on TV than “Prison Break”?
The escape from prison with a body tattoo as the road map? A Vice President who poisons the President to become President and then resigns when an inappropriate relationship with her brother is revealed? A secret Company that seemingly controls the world?
What other show could possibly serve up that stuff?
But if you’ve been watching these past few weeks, you know that the show has given us some of its craziest twists ever as Michael and Lincoln’s mother, Christina (the delicious Kathleen Quinlan), was revealed to not only be alive and a Company employee, but also to be a power-hungry psychopath who hopes to use the mysterious Scylla to start a war between India and China. Plus, we learned that Lincoln and Michael (Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller) are not actually brothers.
However, having seen the series finale, I can tell you that the show has just been getting warmed up as the final two hours are one wild twist after another.
In fact, I would compare it to watching a tennis match, as the story flips back and forth so much you almost get whiplash…
In one of the show’s most creative stories ever, last week’s penultimate episode ended with Michael forced to make a choice between giving Scylla to Christina and saving Lincoln’s life or giving Scylla to The General and saving Sara’s (Sarah Wayne Callies) life. In the finale, Michael tries to find a way to save everyone, but when he learns that there are actually three lives at stake (Sara, you will recall, is pregnant.), Michael starts to rethink his plans to bring down The Company.
Adding to Michael’s dilemma are some familiar faces who also have an interest in getting their hands on Scylla. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, so I won’t tell you who they are. But one of them is a fantastic twist I have to admit I didn’t see coming…
One person I can tell you is back is the scary, creepy T-Bag (Robert Knepper). T-Bag had been playing it pretty straight as of late as he tried to convince The General he would make a good Company man. But the guy who gives me nightmares returns when he is left alone to guard Sarah. My skin has started to crawl just thinking about it.
But what you really want to know is do we get closure? Well, the answer is yes, we do. Are longtime fans going to be happy? About some things, yes. But about others? Probably not so much…
However, regardless of whether you like the ending or not, you’ll kick yourselves if you don’t see it. So if you’ve ever been a fan of the show, I encourage you to watch. The good thing about the episode is that you don’t have to understand what Scylla is or how it will create a war or even what The Company is (none of which I fully understand). You just have to fasten your seatbelts and make sure your arms and legs stay inside the ride at all times.
After all, what else would you expect from TV’s wildest show?...
If you’re looking to learn more about what will happen in the finale, go back and read my post featuring Executive Producer Matt Olmstead’s comments. There are some pretty big clues there.
And I’ll have more to say after the finale airs, as I’m sure some of you will as well…
The series finale of “Prison Break” airs Friday, May 15th at 8 p.m. on FOX…
