"Gary Unmarried" Review: Actually Funny, But...
I’ve been a fan of Jay Mohr’s since “Picture Perfect,” but I had a bad feeling about his new sitcom, “Gary Unmarried.”
So I was relieved to find the show to be actually funny. Hilarious? No. Funny? Yes…
Mohr is Gary, a newly divorced contractor. He’s trying to adjust to being single while sharing custody of his two kids with his ex, Allison (Paula Marshall).
In the premiere, he gets two curveballs. First, he has a one-night stand that turns out to have a little more meaning (Jaime King). Then, he finds out that Allison is getting remarried—to their former marriage counselor (Ed Begley Jr.).
The show has a real been there, done that feel to it, but if you’re a Jay Mohr fan, you’ll want to stick it out because he’s good as a comedy lead. He just needs some more original things to do. The constant bickering between Gary and Allison will get old quick…
“Gary Unmarried” premieres Wednesday, September 24th at 8:30 p.m. on CBS…
