A Major TV Anniversary
Last Thursday was an important anniversary in the world of TV.
It was the 25th anniversary of the airing of the series finale of “M*A*S*H.”
Why is that a big deal? Because to this day, it is still the most-watched network telecast of all time. It was watched by a total of 106 million viewers with a staggering 77 audience share.
By comparison, the second most watched telecast is this year’s Super Bowl XLII which had a total of 148.3 million viewers.
Because of the growth in cable, this feat is likely never to be repeated by a scripted show. In 1983, the three networks (There was no FOX.) had 81% of the viewing public. Last year, it was 32%.
As for whether the finale was any good, I couldn’t tell you because I’ve never seen it. But I know that over the years reviews have been mixed.
You can judge for yourself Friday, March 7th from 5-8 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel…
