Writers’ Strike: What is the issue?

So what is the issue that may lead writers to the picket lines Monday?

According to an article from MSN, the key is “the DVD issue.” Producers want to extend the current DVD payment formula to digital sales. But the writers feel the current formula is “too stingy” and want to raise the payment to writers from the sale of DVDs and apply that higher rate to the digital sales.

J. Nicholas Counter, president of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers was quoted in the article, saying, “We want to make a deal. But, as I said, no further movement is possible to close the gap between us so long as your DVD proposal remains on the table.”
