NBC Commits Overkill...
Tomorrow, NBC will officially announce what I think is one of the biggest cases of network overkill in TV history.
NBC will officially announce the fourth hour of “Today.” Ann Curry, Natalie Morales and Hoda Kotb will be the hosts. Meredith Viera will not participate in the hour at all (She can’t because of a non-compete clause in her “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” contact.) and Matt Lauer will only introduce the hour.
Also contributing to the new hour will be Food Network’s Giada DeLaurentiis and Tiki Barber.
So why does NBC want a fourth hour of “Today”? One word: money. “Today” is the biggest money-maker on the network, so NBC wants to squeeze every drop out of it they can.
So why does NBC need a fourth hour of “Today”? In my opinion, they don’t. I mean how many feature pieces can you squeeze out of one morning anyway? Plus, it puts a crimp on local stations that make money through their syndicated programs, which no doubt led to the cancellation of “Passions” and could eventually kill “Days of Our Lives.”
But I guess as long as NBC gets to show us another hour of outfits we can’t afford and meals we could never cook ourselves, that’s all that matters…
