The premiere of “High School Musical 2” was watched by 17.2 million people. That makes it the most-watched basic cable telecast EVER.

It was also the most-watched TV telecast with kids 6-11, the most watched entertainment telecast with kids 9-14, TV’s most watched Friday telecast in five years, and basic cable’s most-watched TV movie EVER.

And, ABC News reported that as of Friday, the soundtrack had already sold half a million copies—that’s before the movie even aired.
