TV Land Greenlights Fran Drescher Pilot

I don’t always report on pilot news, because there’s no guarantees about which ones will see the light of day, but this one totally intrigued me…

TV Land has announced that it has given a cast-contingent greenlight to a new pilot from Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobsen, the team behind “The Nanny,” called “Happily Divorced.”

“Divorced” centers on how Drescher deals with dating after finding out her husband is gay as she juggles her relationships with her current boyfriend and her ex-husband.

The kicker here is that the show is based on Drescher’s real life.

Drescher and Jacobsen were high school sweethearts (thus the title card at the end of “The Nanny”) who married in 1978. They divorced in 1999. In June, Drescher admitted Jacobsen was gay.

I’m hoping there’s a part for Drescher’s former “Nanny” co-star, Charles Shaughnessy, somewhere…
