Gosselaar on "Commander": "It was awkward"
So is Mark-Paul Gosselaar disappointed that “Commander In Chief” didn’t get any closure?
With a laugh, he told me, “Yes and no.”
If you’re a longtime reader of my blog, you know all about the behind-the-scenes drama on “Commander” as ABC replaced the show’s executive producer/creator, Rod Lurie, with prolific TV producer Steven Bochco. However, even though ABC brought Bochco in to shake the show up, the network didn’t allow Bochco enough free rein and he was eventually let go. But just as the show got back on track, ABC pulled the plug.
Gosselaar was brought on the show by Bochco and he admits it didn’t quite fit. “It was awkward because it wasn’t Stephen’s child…I didn’t enjoy myself as much.”
As Gosselaar went on, he got even more frank. “That was an odd little show to be a part of…We were not as welcome as we would like to have been.”
