May Sweeps: The final weekend
Here’s what the final weekend of sweeps has to offer…
Friday brings a night full of season finales: “Ultimate Coyote Ugly Search” (8 PM, CMT), “Close to Home” (9 PM, CBS) and “Numb3rs” (10 PM, CBS). “Conviction” brings us a two-hour series finale at 9 on NBC. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” honors the top 20 videos in the show’s history with a two-hour special at 8 p.m. on ABC. And Dr. Phil looks at domestic abuse on “Dr. Phil Primetime Special: Escaping Danger” at 8 p.m. on CBS.
Saturday, it’s time for the late-night season finales with “Madtv” at 11 p.m. on FOX and “Saturday Night Live” with host Kevin Spacey (“Superman Returns”) at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
Sunday is jam-packed! First, on FOX, it’s a night of season finales with “The Simpsons” at 8 guest-starring Mandy Moore and a 90-minute “Family Guy” at 8:30 p.m. which gives us a censored version of “Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story.” CBS kicks off at 7 p.m. with a Mike Wallace retrospective on “60 Minutes,” followed by the season finale of “Cold Case” at 8 p.m. CBS wraps up its night with a repeat of the “CSI:Miami”/ “CSI:NY” crossover. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth a look for the scary performance of James Badge Dale (Chase, “24”), but “Miami” fans will be disappointed with the “NY” part of the story that totally under uses Horatio. “Charmed” has its series finale at 8 p.m. on the WB. If you’ve been having cheesy disaster movie withdrawals, look no further than NBC which will air part one of “10.5 Apocalypse,” the sequel to the mega-cheesy “10.5” at 9 p.m. (The conclusion airs Tuesday.). The only reason I’m even thinking of giving this one a look is because Carlos Bernard (Tony, “24”) is in it (I know, I don’t know what he was thinking either.). And, of course, ABC brings us two two-hour finales with “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” at 7 p.m. and “Desperate Housewives” at 9 p.m. where we see how everyone came to Wisteria Lane (including the deceased Mary Alice and Rex). I have a bad feeling that the cliffhanger is going to make some people VERY angry.
Coming up Monday, Sydney Bristow says goodbye and it’s Jack vs. the President…
