CW: More of the same...
There was very little media coverage surrounding the CW’s upfront presentation probably because there was very little new, besides the network itself. Most people are calling it the WB-UPN all-star line-up.
Here’s the breakdown…
Monday
8 PM—7th Heaven
9 PM—Runaway
“Runaway” is a drama produced by Darren Star (“Sex and the City”) about a family on the lam.
Tuesday
8 PM—Gilmore Girls
9 PM—Veronica Mars
Wednesday
8 PM—America’s Next Top Model/Beauty and the Geek
9 PM—One Tree Hill
Thursday
8 PM—Smallville
9 PM—Supernatural
Friday
8 PM—WWE Smackdown
Sunday
7 PM—Everybody Hates Chris
7:30 PM—All of Us
8 PM—Girlfriends
8:30 PM—The Game
9 PM—America’s Next Top Model encore
“Game” is a “Girlfriends” spinoff about women dating pro football players.
Coming in midseason is “Palm Springs,” a soap opera from Kevin Williamson (“Dawson’s Creek”) and “Reba” which was spared at the last moment due to a severe financial penalty if it wasn’t picked up.
Since there’s not much new, I don’t really have much of a take. I think that the Sunday comedy block may have worked better on Friday (Remember the days of ABC’s TGIF?), but because of UPN’s WWE, that’s just not possible. I’m glad to see “Veronica Mars” back (even if I’ve never watched it), but I really wish there was some way that “Pepper Dennis” could have found a place too.
So, what will work and what won’t?
Stay tuned…
