“The Big Bang Theory”: The Funniest Show on TV…For Now
At the end of last season, I was concerned that “The Big Bang Theory” had screwed up by having Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) go on a date.
I needn’t have worried…
The season premiere is a half-hour of non-stop laughs as Penny confides a secret in Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and he struggles to keep it from Leonard. In fact, at one point he even moves out and stays with both Howard (Simon Helberg) and Rajesh (Kunal Nayyar) to hilarious results.
“Big Bang” is truly the funniest show on TV, which really makes me question the developments in this season’s second episode…
Sara Gilbert joins the cast as Leslie, Leonard’s ex-girlfriend (This reunites “Roseanne” couple Gilbert and Galecki.), and I don’t know why she is necessary. I totally understand the idea of a love triangle, but Leslie’s constant putdowns of Sheldon are annoying. And the scientific dialogue is totally unrealistic coming out of Gilbert’s month. She’s just not believable.
But more importantly, the more camera time she gets, the less Jim Parsons gets and that’s never a good thing.
Maybe when the story is not all about her, it will work a lot better. I would hate to see the funniest show on TV self-destruct…
“The Big Bang Theory” premieres Monday, September 22nd at 8 p.m. on CBS…
